We are software developers based in London
Our established teams of cross-disciplined engineers build quality software for start-ups and enterprises.
Our established teams of cross-disciplined engineers build quality software for start-ups and enterprises.
Our most important activity is to really understand what you need: your business, your users, your goals.
Getting this right means we build just enough software to deliver the features your business demands.
We drive out solutions by writing tests that clearly express the behaviour you have in mind.
Featurist teams build websites, services and applications using languages like JavaScript, Ruby, C#, HTML and CSS.
Featurists love pair-programming and writing tests first, because it produces simple code that’s easy to change.
Our software is ready to release at any time, at the push of a button.
We have experience working with tiny startups right through to very large enterprises.
We don’t make much fuss about job titles and career ladders, but aspire to being cross-functional team players.
Featurist teams are self-organising and assume whatever roles are necessary to ensure your project’s success.
We’re very happy to share our skills. Featurists host training sessions, talk at conferences and regularly contribute to open source software.
We can help your business improve its software development practices by embedding Featurist developers in your organisation. Get in touch for more information.
We founded Featurist with the vision of building small teams with distinct abilities and experience who can make an immediate impact when a business decides it’s time to ask for outside help.
The seed team is the first and includes the three co-founders, who previously worked together as independent consultants in large media organisations.
Adrian Longley
Adrian worked as a consultant software developer in a variety of large companies and startups for a decade before founding Featurist.
Adrian’s experience across sectors from international media to insurance gives him well-rounded knowledge of how business depends on software.
Outside the cricket season Adrian hacks on his .NET web browser automation framework known as Coypu.
Josh Chisholm
Josh reckons quality code leads to a happier life. He’s worked as a professional programmer for over ten years, more recently diversifying in QA and software coaching roles.
Josh has developed countless systems from scratch, and worked on some of the highest-volume websites in the world.
When he’s not DJ-ing you might find Josh hacking on a minimalist BDD tool for Ruby called Smoosh
Tim Macfarlane
Tim is a talented software developer with a love for diverse programming languages and a natural ability to design amazing software.
Tim spent many years as an architect at BBC Worldwide, so he brings to the team unrivalled experience of designing huge systems.
When he’s not paragliding Tim hacks on an experimental DSL-friendly programming language called Pogoscript.
If you want to start a new team or even if you want to join one of ours, drop us a line, show us some code and tell us what gets you motivated. We’re looking for experienced all-rounders and enthusiastic apprentices.
Come and pair with us in Clerkenwell one Friday to get a feel for how we work.
In 2012 7digital brought Featurist in to help deliver a key strategic project involving mobile music streaming and subscriptions which impacted nearly every part of the organisation.
Rob Bowley (Development Manager) on Featurist:
“On the technical side Featurist built precisely the right amount we needed and what they did was to an
exceptional standard regarding both internal quality and on meeting the requirements.
On the operational side Featurist went above and beyond the call of a typical software team.
They had an amazing ability to root out and pursue the issues that needed solving up and down the
chain of the organisation to ensure we could deliver on time. We owe a huge amount to Featurist
and I would not hesitate in recommending them. We have very high standards at 7digital and
Featurist regularly excelled.””
Featurist has provided coaching to various teams at the BBC to lead them through adoption of Behaviour Driven Development.
Our coaches can help your team to take the first step towards BDD, or we can help more experienced teams tackle their most intractable testing problems
Featurist is a new company, but we’re hard at work with our clients across London delivering software every day.
If you have an upcoming project and think you could use our help do get in touch.
